Before you choose

Is it for you?

This hire is designed for paddlers who already know how to use a sit-in sea kayak. Independence is part of both the experience and the responsibility.

You need previous experience in sit-in sea kayaks and basic navigation skills. You must be able to swim.

Preparation for independent paddling

  • Know basic manoeuvres and sea safety.
  • Have training in self-rescue, rescue and helping a capsized paddler.
  • Adapt your itinerary to the wind, sea and group’s abilities.
  • Tell us about anything that may affect safety or equipment fit.

Have very little experience? A basic course usually takes 3–4 hours and should cover technique and rescues.

Paid when collecting the equipment and returned at the end if everything is in good condition. It is not included in the hire price.

Clear pricing

If you cancel

Notify us of any cancellation or change by email. Charges are calculated on the total booking price, not the advance payment.

The first two bands include a 10% administration charge in addition to the cancellation penalty. The maximum charge is 100%. Any amount due back from your payment is refunded after applying the charge. Check the refund timeframe and method with the centre.

If we cancel or change the service because of weather or safety: you are entitled to rescheduling, a refund of the amount paid or a partial refund according to the service affected, including when the interruption occurs during hire.

Early withdrawal and personal changes

There is no refund for late arrival, finishing early, lack of experience or considering the weather unsatisfactory when the centre continues to operate the service. The customer cancellation policy also applies to personal, family or medical emergencies and other unforeseen events. We recommend travel insurance.

Equipment and responsibility

You take responsibility for your independent paddling and accept the inherent risks of sea kayaking. You must return the equipment in the same condition and within the agreed period. Damage, loss or delays may incur additional charges; ask the centre for the applicable amounts.

Hire declaration and conditions of use

By hiring, you declare that you take responsibility for your safety during the hire period, understand the risks of sea kayaking and will bear them in mind while paddling. You agree to return the equipment in the condition in which it was supplied and within the agreed period. Menorca en Kayak may claim costs arising from delays and damage.

You must not paddle under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that affects your reactions. Tell us beforehand about any circumstances relevant to your safety. By booking, you accept the general terms and the responsibility declaration applicable to self-guided hire.

The centre may request the identity documents necessary to complete the booking through the designated channel.

Answers before you set off

Frequently asked questions

What experience do I need?

You need previous experience in sit-in sea kayaks, basic navigation skills and training in safety, self-rescue and helping a capsized paddler. You must be able to swim. If you do not yet have this preparation, we recommend a basic course before hiring or a guided tour.

How do I choose my trip dates?

Select collection and return dates to organise your multi-day trip. Hire is counted by calendar days. The calendar calculates the price according to your dates, kayaks and chosen extras.

Can I book single and tandem kayaks together?

Yes. Select the number of single and tandem kayaks in the same calendar. The price updates to include all equipment in one booking.

What equipment is included?

Sea kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, nylon spraydeck, one 15-litre dry bag, hand bailer and sponge, two-piece spare paddle, towline, route map and daily weather information. Transport and accommodation are not included.

Where do I collect the kayak and how do I return it?

Our usual base is Es Grau. Tell us your arrival time so we can prepare the handover. We review the forecast and route, fit the equipment and address safety and logistics. Return is at the agreed place and time; collection elsewhere must be arranged in advance.

Can I finish elsewhere or change coasts?

Yes, with transport booked separately, subject to availability and at least one day’s notice. The cost depends on the area and number of kayak seats. Check the logistics rates on this page before planning your route.

What happens if the weather changes?

Menorca en Kayak may change or cancel hire for safety reasons, including during your route. In that case, rescheduling, a full refund or a partial refund applies according to the service affected. If the centre continues to operate and the customer considers the weather unsatisfactory, no refund is due on that basis.

What should I bring?

For the outing: clothing and footwear that can get wet, sun protection and water. For a longer trip, prepare your personal equipment, food, water and accommodation according to the duration. Once your booking is confirmed, we send a personal equipment list and good-practice recommendations; sleeping equipment can be added if available in the booking system.

How does the security deposit work?

You leave 100 € per person when collecting the equipment. It is returned at the end if everything is handed back in good condition. It is separate from the hire price.

What if I lose or damage equipment, or return late?

You must return the equipment in the agreed condition and within the agreed period. Damage, loss or delays may incur additional costs. Check the applicable amount for each incident with the centre: replacement or late-return rates are not published without confirmation.

What happens if I stop before the end?

There is no refund for finishing the route early or for lack of experience. Additional collection or transport services are arranged separately. If the centre interrupts hire because of weather or safety, the specific conditions for that situation apply.

How do I cancel and when will I receive my refund?

Cancellation or changes must be communicated in writing by email. With 15 days’ notice or more, the total charge is 30%; between 14 and 5 days, 35%; with fewer than 5 days or for a no-show, 100%. This is calculated on the total price and includes administration. Any amount due back is refunded after applying the charge; confirm the refund timeframe and method with the centre.

Can I paddle around Menorca independently?

Yes, if your experience, preparation and conditions allow. We recommend at least seven days for a full circumnavigation, always with favourable weather and sea conditions. For shorter trips, we help you choose stages and the most suitable coast. Completion of a particular itinerary is not guaranteed.
